Linda Ronstadt had to come and sing some ‘Canciones de
Su Padre’ for the Baby Jesus.

I have always watched Linda and her personal and
professional journey through her life and her life’s music.
She has taken us along and taught us to sing along to
songs that we might never have heard if she had not
personally brought them to our attention.

She does not discriminate musically, saying that only this
or that music is worthy of memorization, or humming or
dancing along to.  She sings country and rock and religious
and Mexican and opera and swing and jazz and lullabies
and omigosh, what else !?!?!

She is our Musical Ambassador and has taught some of us
the few words that we know in Spanish, as we sing along
to her daddy’s songs. Our babies sleep better to her
singing. We remember when she wore roller skates and
polka dots.

She studies and learns, too and is an example for us all,
teaching us to exercise our musical and cultural curiosity to
expand our horizons. I like her a lot.

I call Linda Ronstadt
our second most
famous Tucson
singer, because Lalo
Guerrero is the one
who stayed closest
to home, to us, to his
Barrio Viejo.

Though Linda comes
home to live
sometimes for years,
too.
